ASSABIL supports a network of 30 partner libraries in rural areas around Lebanon.
Book donation
ASSABIL regularly distributes books and magazines to the libraries in its network.
Training
We organize training workshops to strengthen the associations responsible for local libraries. We also work with teachers to assist them in utilizing the libraries’ resources and benefitting from the tools that are available at our Resource and Training Center.
Activities
We encourage and assist partner libraries to organize a wide range of activities on various topics such as public access to knowledge, citizenship, human rights, etc.
Expertise
ASSABIL is a source of advice and guidance for both those seeking to establish public libraries and those working on strengthening existing ones.
Here are the conditions required to join
Space
Your library must be located in a clean and dry space that measures at least 100sqm.
Opening hours
Your library should be open to the public at least 8 hours per week.
Lending
Your library must allow patrons to borrow materials and take them outside the library. Lending should be free of charge.
Collection
The library must have a collection of at least 3,000 books and must subscribe to at least one daily newspaper. The materials in the collection must represent a wide range of views. The library must not practice censorship.
Open to all
Your library must welcome everyone to use its facilities regardless of gender, race, religion, class or sexual orientation.
Employees
Your library must hire at least one employee to be responsible for the Library Cooperation Protocol.
