The tremendous disaster that struck Beirut on August 4 2020 at 6:07pm also destroyed its public libraries. As a result, these cultural spaces that serve more than 35,000 visitors per year are forcibly closed until we are able to rebuild.

We are determined to rebuild the much needed public libraries back to cater to all its beneficiaries. But with very limited financial resources, Assabil is struggling to restore the destruction and is looking for all the help it can get to resume its services.

Assabil is a non-profit organization, its importance lies in its services and contributions to the communities in Lebanon: 

• Establishing & managing the 3 major public libraries in Beirut & a mobile library that primarily serves primarily public schools and non-formal education centers in remote areas.
  As well as Resource & training centers for professionals in public libraries, schools, cultural centers, and community-based organizations
• Supporting a network of more than 20 public libraries across Lebanon
• Organizing more than 120 annual cultural & educational events

All of which is possible to provide for free to all, with the support & generous contributions of Assabil friends & partners.

Although Monnot is scheduled to reopen on Monday August 17, Bachoura and Geitawi will remain forcibly closed until we are able to complete restorations.
